BANGKOK (AP) – YouTube has removed five TV channels run by the Myanmar Armed Forces for violating community guidelines.

The company said on Friday it had shut down Myawaddy Media, MRTV, WD online broadcasting channels, MWD Variety և MWD Myanmar broadcasters. The decision came after a military coup on February 1 that toppled the country’s elected government, sparking mass protests.

“We have shut down a number of channels, removed several videos from YouTube in accordance with our community guidelines, and comply with applicable laws,” YouTube said in a statement.

The company said it monitors the situation for any content that may violate its rules.

In December, it aired 34 channels as part of an investigation into content uploaded to the Coordinated Impact campaign. The campaign carried content related to the Myanmar elections, regional conflicts և US, China և Malaysia.

YouTube’s decision follows an earlier announcement by Facebook that it had removed all Myanmar military-linked pages from its և Instagram site, which it also owns.
