CHELTENHAM, England (AP) – Tiger Roll became the five-time winner of the Chingenham Festival with an 18-length victory at Glenfarclas Chase on Wednesday.
It was a comeback for the famous horse that won the last two Grand National Steeplechase races in 2018, 2019, but will not cross the unprecedented three turfs next month after its owners in the awkward Aintree race. They took him off the field because they perceived him as a sign of unjust disability.
In recent months, Tiger Roll has been under the temporary care of Denise Foster following the dismissal of her regular trainer, Gordon Elliott, following a picture of her dead horse posted on social media this month.
Tiger Roll was dropped as the 9-2 second favorite behind the horse that beat him at Easyysland last year, he was much younger than he was 11 years into the sport.
“Never underestimate the tiger,” said winning jockey Keith Donogyu. “Many continue to underestimate him, but we have always had faith.
“It simply came to our notice then. This is the Tiger we saw at home. He is just a legend. “
Eddie O’Leary, Tiger Roll Owners Competition Manager at Gigginstown House Stud, said he had no regrets about taking the horse out of the Grand National.
However, O’Leary added: “It will be difficult for him to retire after that.
“Whatever we decide to do, if he does not win another race, we will enjoy it today.”
Put The Kettle On won the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the market day race for the second day of the festival, as odds favorite Chacun Pour Soi came in third.
