BRUSSELS (AP) – Exactly five years ago, the Queen of Belgium օրը paid tribute to the Queen հիշ in memory of the victims of the suicide bombings that killed 32 people at the airport in Brussels’s metro on Monday.
King Philip և Queen Matilda at Brussels Airport began commemorations next to Prime Minister Alexander de Croix. They met the victims, “their relatives, after Philip laid flowers at the memorial plaque.”
They continued on their way to Melbek metro station in the center of Brussels, watching another moment of silence at 9 am. 11 (GMT 0811), just before the explosion took place on a subway train near the European Union buildings in the city.
Earlier this year, 10 people, including the only surviving suspect in a deadly Paris attack in 2015, were ordered to stand trial in connection with a suicide bombing in Brussels.
Among those on trial are Salah Abdeslam, who is also suspected of playing a key role in the Paris attacks, and Mohamed Abrini, a Brussels resident who left Brussels’s Aventem airport after explosives failed to detonate. The date of the trial has not been set yet.
Abdeslam was captured in Brussels on March 18, 2016, and his arrest may have prompted other members of the Islamic State cell to launch a planned attack. Four days later, suicide bombers detonated their explosives at Brussels’s metro airport at rush hour.
In Paris, a network of French-Belgian extremists killed 130 people as a result of attacks on the Bataclan concert hall, the national stadium, bars and restaurants.
About 900 people were injured in the attacks in Brussels, which was claimed by the IP.
