T-Mobile is looking for a leader in 5G with $ 60 home internet

T-Mobile US, based in Bel, is trying to get out of the box in the 5G race with the introduction of free mobile broadband և free phone gifts.

Starting Wednesday, people can sign up for $ 60 a month online at selected locations at an average speed of 100 megabits per second. The availability requires a combined receiver / Wi-Fi gateway device near the window.

The launch comes two years after Verizon Communications launched 5G home internet, but so far the technology has been slow. T-Mobile plans to offer the service in areas where it has high wireless network capacity, with the aim of directing it to cable companies, which dominate the domestic broadband market.

T-Mobile is also launching a commercial for the phone, allowing anyone with a work phone to trade it for a $ 300 Samsung 5G phone or a half-size Apple iPhone 12 5G.

“They want to upgrade 5G quickly, not only to brag, which is possible, but also to give them a lower price for the service,” said Roger Antner, an analyst at Recon Analytics.

A year ago, through the acquisition of Sprint, T-Mobile acquired sufficient airtime to take a one-year lead in building Verizon և AT&T mid-range 5G networks. T-Mobile expects to have 8 million home broadband customers in five years.

“Our wireless competitors are not in a good position in terms of 5G coverage capabilities to be able to spread Internet at home,” said Dow Draper, executive vice president of product development at T-Mobile.

“We believe that there are enough opportunities for our products that can make significant use of.”

Not everyone is optimistic about the poor performance of a wireless broadband home և imperfect signal reception compared to a fixed connection such as a fiber.

T-Mobile will reach only about 4 million subscribers by 2025, or half of its target, as it will have limited network capacity, և consumers may continue to prefer fixed internet providers.

“We are not sure how much the product will be in demand,” Chaplin wrote. “It will be slower, less reliable than cable.”
