SpaceX Flies ISS crew with used capsule, rocket in the first direction

The four astronauts are navigating the International Space Station in the SpaceX capsule with equipment previously flown in the company’s first crew flight.

The Dragon spacecraft is scheduled to arrive at the orbital laboratory in Florida early Saturday at 5 p.m. 49, just over 23 hours after the explosion from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. The capsule was expected to orbit at an altitude of about 125 miles above the planet Earth on Friday. The first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket landed on a drone in the Atlantic Ocean.

“We wish you a great mission,” SpaceX launch engineer Jack E. Hill told staff minutes before the crew was lifted. “Good luck, enjoy the walk.”

The voyage of the former capsule rocket marks another significant milestone in Space Exploration Technologies’ ability to be re-launched. Elon Musk, the founder, advocated the design of a spacecraft for multiple missions as the only practical and economical way to reduce launch costs and expand human research, particularly to Mars.

The Dragon Capsule on Friday’s mission had already flown two astronauts into space last year on the first test flight of the SpaceX National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The last Falcon 9 rocket last flew in November to transport four astronauts to the SpaceX spacecraft for NASA’s first regular SpaceX cruise mission, known as Crew-1.

At a post-launch press conference, Musk spoke about the purpose of reusing the spacecraft and asked a wide range of questions, despite a NASA spokesman urging reporters to focus on the day’s mission.

The billionaire said he had only recently come to believe that a large rocket like SpaceX’s futuristic Starship could be “fully and quickly used”. Finding out how to do this is a thorny issue that will be the key to making people more diverse, he said.

Starship, SpaceX’s newest և largest rocket, could be ready for human flight in two years, he said, while acknowledging that his time record was often overly optimistic. During the first four pilot flights of South Texas, prototype stellar aircraft had four accidents. The fifth attempt may take place this month.

“Obviously we should not build craters with Starship tests,” Musk said.

NASA’s SpaceX lunar landing may be ready for flight in 2024, he added.

On April 28, SpaceX is expected to bring back four crew members from a November flight that shook off the coast of Florida. The next mission of the company is scheduled for October.

Last year, NASA agreed to allow its space station crew to rotate on previously flying equipment. The agency surveyed the entire Falcon 9 fleet, including more than “400 certification products”, conducted its own analysis of Falcon-Dragon engines, heat shields and other parts. program:

NASA Administrator Steve Yurchik welcomed the agency’s close partnership with SpaceX in recent years. Last week, the agency chose SpaceX to land astronauts as part of the Artemis program.

The flight on Friday is “the third launch in less than a year after almost 10 years of missile launch of US spacecraft from US soil,” he said after the launch.

SpaceX has flown another of its Falcon 9 rockets nine times without a man, and its Dragon capsule is certified for up to five flights. California-based Hawthorne wants to learn about the useful life of the Falcon 9, though staff launches will not be part of that testing.

Musk said the first phase of the rocket had no “obvious limit” on how many times it could fly, and that the company would soon use one on Flight 10 to deploy the Starlink satellite constellation.

SpaceX will use the reinforcement phase “until we see some sort of failure in Starlink missions,” he said. NASA flights will not be in the “life leaders” of Falcon 9.

NASA’s Crew-2 mission is led by 53-year-old Shane Kimbrow, a retired U.S. Army colonel and helicopter pilot, the father of three children, on his third space trip. The crew is expected to return to Earth in late October.

There are three more astronauts on the ship.

  • Pilot Megan McCarthy, 49, was selected as an astronaut by NASA in 2000 as an astronaut. He flew in May 2009 for the last mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope. a test flight for NASA to the space station. The Uyghur has a son.
  • Mission Specialist Akihiko Hoshide, 52, is an astronaut astronaut astronaut who flew into space twice between 2008 and 2012.
  • Thomas Pesket, a former Air France pilot who joined the European Space Agency in 2009 as an astronaut. Resen, 43, of Pescete, France, spent six months in space from November 2016 to June 2017.

The Commercial Crew Program is a cornerstone of NASA’s efforts to contract with private companies when it is possible for astronauts to carry cargo as well as other services.

In 2014, NASA awarded startup SpaceX և Boeing $ 6.8 billion worth of contracts to restore the ability to fly to a US orbital lab without buying a seat in Russia’s Soyuz capsule. The second test flight of the Boeing’s Starliner without a crew is scheduled for the end of this year, after the failed mission in December 2019.

Musk founded SpaceX in 2002 with the goal of enabling humans to live on other planets, և NASA has been a major partner որդ client. The truck version of the SpaceX Dragon Capsule runs regularly to the space station.
