Some Washington state suppliers to receive ‘double delivery’ of COVID-19 vaccine after last week’s hurricane delays

Some Washington state suppliers plan to receive twice as many vaccines this week, delaying ice-and-snow deliveries across the country last week.

For some hospitals, it will “actually be a double birth,” said Cassie Sauer of the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA), adding that many institutions have already received birth certificates.

Au Auer noted that hospitals are not designed for most of the total government allocations for this or last week’s doses, և they need to be able to manage the influx.

“We are confident that the hospital will be able to work on our doses fairly quickly,” Sauer said.

Darin Goss, chief executive of Providence Health and Services Southwest, says about 7,000 patients from healthcare organizations had to delay delivery last week due to delivery delays. The organization serves the Louis և Thurston counties.

“The crowd is not fun,” Goss said at a WSHA briefing on Monday. Those appointments will be rescheduled for this week, Goss said.

The company received the shipment from Pfizer this week, and delivery from Moderna has already been confirmed, Goss said.

Shipping delays over the weekend shut down four state-run mass vaccination sites, most of which are scheduled to open earlier this week depending on supplies. On Friday, Washington health officials told vaccine suppliers that they expected shipping shipments to be resolved by Wednesday. According to the state update provided to providers, about 6 million doses have been delayed across the country.

Vaccine suppliers across King County planned to receive about 160,000 doses of the vaccine this week, said Gabriel Spitzer, spokesman for Public Health – Seattle և King County. This figure is almost double what was expected this week, if delays had not been delayed in last week’s deliveries.

Public Health operates two mass vaccination sites, one in Kent and one in Auburn. Spitzer said those sites could vaccinate this week’s appointments in addition to those reassigned from last week.

Many vaccine states are focusing on delivering second doses this week. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says people should try to get their second dose as soon as possible, but that a six-week break for Pfizer և Moderna vaccines is acceptable.

He is new this week. Delivery of Pfizer vaccine trays in Washington state will be presented in 917 doses instead of 975, according to Sauer.

Just days after receiving the vaccine, pharmacists realized that they could take a sixth or seventh dose of Pfizer vaccine vials. The amount of vaccine that could be made depended on the type of needles used, the syringes, and the amount of dead space in those systems.

The revelation shifted public attention earlier this winter to the production and distribution of low-dead space syringes. Pfizer has also lobbied federal regulators to calculate additional doses as part of its US Government commitment.

Pfizer vaccine trays contain 195 vials, և this week each vial is supposed to contain six doses, not five, Sauer said.

It was not immediately clear how the change would affect the preservation of vaccine data by the Washington Department of Health. The section did not respond to a request for comment.
