Weeks after his name appeared in a search for the Kansas Athletic Principal vacancy, Pat Chun was apparently targeted by another Power School.
According to San on Mercury-News’ Jon on-Wilner, Chu is one of two Pac-12 sports directors who have already been interviewed for AD work in the Northwest region. Cal’s sports director Know my Newton was also interviewed, saying other candidates are expected to join the race before Northwestern makes a decision, likely in the next 7-10 days, according to Wilner.
On March 30, a source confirmed that Chun had not պատրաստվում been going to be interviewed for the AD position in Kansas, contrary to reports to the contrary. A school spokesman declined to comment when asked about Northwestern’s interest in Chun.
Although Chun showed little interest in working in Kansas, moving to the Northwest would bring the Big Ten conferences back to the Ohio native. Chun is an Ohio State graduate who has worked at his alma mater for 15 years. He was promoted six times in the athletics department to the position of Executive Director of Executive Associate Athletics before leaving Baker to become the athletic director of the Atlantic University of Florida.
Chun helped WSU set fundraising records during its three-plus school years, and recently secured a lucrative sponsorship with the Gesa Credit Union to name the stadium rights to the stadium. Power Chun Na, Asia’s first five-level sports director, was responsible for hiring four major school sports: Nick Rolovich for football, Kale Smith for men’s basketball, Brian Green for baseball, and Kami Etridge for women’s basketball.
Unlike SEUA, Northwestern is not traditionally a contender to win the Men’s Basketball “Big Ten” as a football, which would make it a relatively low-pressure situation for an incoming sports director. Jim my Phillips, who recently left the Northwest Region to become ACC Commissioner, became the second highest paid sports director in the country. As of 2018, according to Phillips, the annual salary is $ 1.57 million. Chun’s annual salary at WSU is $ 650,000, and AD recently had to cut its temporary salary by 5% in response to COVID-19 cuts.
