LONDON (AP) – Prince Philip is “comfortable” in a London hospital where he is being treated for an infection.
The palace says that Philip, the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II, “is comfortable, responds to treatment, but is not expected to stay in hospital for a few days.”
He was admitted to the hospital of King Edward VII a week ago after feeling unwell. The disease was not related to the coronavirus, and royal officials called it a preventative measure.
Philip’s youngest son, Prince Edward, told Sky News that his father was “much better”.
Edward said. “Looking forward to coming out, which is the most positive thing, so we keep our fingers crossed.”
The other members of the royal family continue their official duties during Philip’s hospitalization.
Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, resigned from public office in 2017 “rarely appeared in public”. During the blockade of the present English coronavirus, the Queen lived in Windsor Castle, west London.
Both Philip and 94-year-old Elizabeth received the COVID-19 vaccine in January.
The Queen performed her first face-to-face event of the year on Thursday, when a knight of the royal aide took part in a personal, social distance ceremony in Windsor.
Philip, who turns 100 in June, married Elizabeth in 1947 in Westminster Abbey, London, five years before she became queen. He is the longest-serving royal friend in British history.
The last time he was hospitalized was in December 2019, when he was treated for a “pre-existing condition” and discharged four nights later.
