The NBA’s play-in tournament tipped off Tuesday night with a pair of Eastern Conference matchups. The first game of the night between the No. 9 Indiana Pacers and No. 10 Charlotte Hornets is at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and after a hot start on the offensive end, it is the Pacers who own a sizable lead after three quarters of play. The stakes couldn’t be higher as the loser will be done for the season. The winner, however, advances to face the loser of the Boston Celtics-Washington Wizards 7 vs. 8 play-in game to determine the East’s No. 8 seed.
The Charlotte Hornets are looking for their first playoff appearance since 2016. They won the regular-season series against Indiana 2-1. While rookie sensation LaMelo Ball is back in action for the Hornets, they’ll be without Gordon Hayward, who won’t get to face off against his former franchise.
As for the Pacers, they enter this play-in game banged up with several key players dealing with injuries, including Myles Turner (toe, out), Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring, available) and Domantas Sabonis (quad, available). They’ll also be without Caris LeVert, who’s out due to health and safety protocols. Indiana, seeking its sixth straight playoff appearance, will play host which is an advantage even if they own a lowly 13-23 mark at home this season.
