The university announced Wednesday that Washington State University will require proof that students and staff are vaccinated against COVID-19 before they return to live or work at the university. WSU is the first state university in Washington to announce vaccine requirements. It joins the University of Seattle և Pacific Lutheran University, two private universities that introduced vaccines to students earlier this month. University of Washington, West Washington University, Evergreen State College, Central Washington University have not announced their mandates, but strongly urge staff and students to vaccinate.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has placed 15 counties in the state’s largest cities in the state’s extreme risk category since Friday, imposing restrictions that include banning indoor dining. Brown issued his decree on Tuesday, saying the rise in COVID-19 hospitalizations threatened to put pressure on doctors. Washington Gov. Ayse Insley is expected to impose new restrictions on a number of counties next week, possibly including the state’s largest, forcing businesses and churches to cut collection capacity from 50 percent to 25 percent. Inslee will decide which regions should be returned to Phase 2 of its reopening plan after evaluating public health safety benchmark numbers.
