How To Get Rid Of Peloton Training Without Sinking

Must read

Lisa Whitney, a dietitian in Reno, Nevada, got into a life-saving deal about two years ago. The fitness studio was going out of business, selling its equipment. He earned $ 100 for a closed sports bike.

Whitney soon made some additions to the bike. He mounted his iPad on the steering wheel. He then experimented with online cycling courses that ran on YouTube և the Peloton app, a manufacturer of Internet-enabled exercise equipment that offers interactive fitness classes.

Whitney did not want to upgrade to one of Peloton’s $ 1,900 luxury sports bikes, which includes tablet flow classes, sensors that track your speed, and your heart rate. So he further modified his bicycle, turning it into a Peloton on his own, buying sensors և closed bicycle shoes.

The total is about $ 300, plus a $ 13 monthly subscription to the Peloton app. Not cheap, but a significant discount on the price he could pay.

“I’m happy with my post,” said Whitney, 42. “I really do not think modernization will do much.”

The epidemic, which has forced many gyms to close, has prompted hordes of people to sprinkle on luxury items such as Peloton bikes and racetracks so they can work out at home. Taking advantage of this trend, last year Apple launched Apple Fitness Plus, a fitness training program designed exclusively for people who have an Apple Watch that requires an iPhone to work.

But it can all be expensive. The minimum price for the Apple Watch և iPhone is $ 600, and the Apple Fitness Plus costs $ 10 per month. Then you need a streaming device like the Apple TV, which costs about $ 150, to teach lessons on the big screen TV instead of the phone while doing the exercises. The whole Peloton experience is even more expensive.

Most of us have a laid back attitude when it comes to painting a picture about ourselves. So I tried to minimize the cost of video-instructed training at home, talked to professionals, rated the pros and cons.

Here is what I learned.

Free Pros and Cons:

The first question I got to start my experience of working cheaply at home was whether I subscribed to a fitness program or free YouTube streaming training. Both are basically video tutorials that guide you through your workouts.

So I bought a $ 8 yoga mat, a $ 70 pair of adjustable knives, and turned on my TV, which includes a YouTube app. After that, I subscribed to the three most popular YouTube channels that have free content for home training. Yoga With Adriene, Fitness Blender And Holly Dolke:

One immediate downside was the almost content. There are often hundreds of videos on YouTube that make training difficult. Even when I finally chose a video, I realized that I needed to provide some image for some quality issues.

For example, on the channel Yoga With Adriene, I chose the video “Yoga when you feel dead inside”, which felt appropriate for the time we lived. The video looked good, but sometimes the teacher’s voice sounded muffled.

The production problems were more visible on the Holly Dolke channel, which has a set of intense workouts that you can do without any equipment. When I tried the Muffin Top Melter video, one teacher in the background showed me how to do a more complex version of each exercise, but the other teacher, in the foreground, kept blocking it.

Then came the ads. While I was lifting weights while watching a Fitness Blender 10-minute fat burning workout, YouTube interrupted the video to show an advertisement for Dawn Soap. It left me with a napkin around my neck while I waited for the commercial to end.

Leaving those problems aside, I was able to do all the exercises shown on this YouTube և they left me windy and sweaty. I can not complain much about the free cost. Most importantly, yoga with Adriene managed to make me feel less dead inside.

What do you get when you pay?

To compare YouTube videos of free exercise videos with paid experience, I subscribed to Peloton և Apple Fitness Plus with the best box on my Apple TV. I have been training using both products for the last two months.

Peloton և Apple Fitness Plus addressed many of the issues with free exercise content.

For one, the workouts were classified according to the type of training, including yoga, strength training – the main, then – the difficulty or duration of training. It took a while to choose a workout.

In both Peloton and Apple Fitness Plus, the video-audio quality was very clear, and the workouts were filmed from different angles to see what the instructors were doing. The bonus of Fitness Plus was that my heart rate և calories burned were displayed both on my Apple Watch and on the TV screen.

In short, paying for those subscriptions made me feel more comfortable, which led to a more enjoyable workout. I found that Peloton videos cost $ 13 a month. And $ 10 a month is reasonable for Apple Fitness Plus, but only if you already have an Apple Watch և iPhone.

Make yourself a Peloton

So what about spin bikes? If you want the technical details of Peloton but do not want to spend on equipment, there are two basic approaches.

You can use an existing bike to get on the cheapest route. This is where home workshops come in handy.

Take Omar Sultan, Cisco Network Manager He changed his road bike with a few additions. A bike trainer that secures the back wheel և bike frame և costs about $ 100; A $ 40 Wahoo record sensor that tracks its power output, speed, and data transfer to a smartphone. : a heart rate monitor that stuck to his chest, such as the $ 90 Polar H10. He then used a streaming device to watch Peloton lessons on his TV.

“The installation of DIY is 80% of the way to Peloton,” said Sultan.

Using YouTube or the Peloton app to teach cycling through YouTube or the Peloton app, the more expensive option was to buy an indoor sports bike, use a tablet or phone, as Whitney did. The $ 700 IC7.9, for example, includes a caliper sensor և your tablet pad. After that, you can buy a heart rate monitor և a pair of $ 100 indoor cycling shoes that squeeze the pedals.

But if you use your own bike or a modified spinning wheel Pel try the Peloton app, you will not be able to participate in the so-called app leader, which shows a graphical representation of your progress compared to other Peloton users online.

With a DIY bike, it can also be difficult to figure out how to change the transmission to model when the instructor tells you to increase the resistance, as when you aspire to climb a hill.

Nicole Odya, a Chicago nurse practitioner who replaced the high-end indoor bike, the Keizer M3i, said the DIY route has seen significant growth. Using his own iPad, he has the flexibility to choose any fitness app he wants to use, such as Zwift և mPaceLine. That gave him the freedom to adjust his bike, so he changed the stock pedals for the better.

“I did not want to be trapped in their platform,” he told Peloton.
