Fully vaccinated can travel again, says new CDC guidelines

NEW YORK (AP) – Vaccinated Americans can enjoy those trips again, according to a new US guide released on Friday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its guidelines, saying that fully vaccinated people can travel to the United States without undergoing or being quarantined for coronavirus testing.

In the past, the agency has warned people against vaccination against unnecessary travel, but said it would update its guidelines as more people get vaccinated and evidence is gathered to protect its staff.

“Every day you get more data, you change your leadership based on the data available,” said Dr. Ali Khan, dean of the University of Nebraska College of Public Health.

Khan noted that the update strengthens the safety and effectiveness of vaccines and is another incentive for people to get vaccinated.

According to the CDC, nearly 100 million people (or about 30% of the population) in the United States have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Two weeks after receiving the last required dose of the vaccine, the person is considered fully vaccinated.

Unvaccinated people are still advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

The new guide says:

– Fully vaccinated people can travel to the United States without coronavirus testing or quarantine. The agency notes that people still have to wear masks, avoid social crowds at social distances.

– The International Travel Agency says vaccinated people do not need to take the COVID-19 test before leaving, although some destinations may require it.

– Vaccinated people must still have a negative COVID-19 test before boarding a flight to the United States և three to five days after returning. They do not need quarantine. The agency noted the possible introduction of virus variants տարբեր differences in vaccine coverage around the world for cautious travel instructions abroad.

The CDC cited a recent study on the real effects of vaccines for its updated guide. The agency has already said that fully vaccinated people can go inside with each other without wearing masks or social distance. It says vaccinated people can visit unvaccinated people in the same household in such conditions as long as the unvaccinated person is at risk of serious illness if they become infected.

The United States began distributing the vaccine in mid-December. The first vaccines, from Pfizer և Moderna, require two doses a few weeks apart. Johnson & Johnson disposable vaccine regulators gave the green light in late February.
