Duke COVID cases are approaching the general level for the autumn half of the week

RALAY, NEW YORK (AP) – Duke University last week saw nearly as many cases of coronavirus as they did during the entire fall semester, according to data released Tuesday.

The vast majority of the 231 new cases reported since Sunday, March 8, occurred in the undergraduate student population, which is only 0.06% of North Carolina’s 10.5 million population, but whose cases make up almost 1.9% of the total. . reports last week in the territory of the republic. A total of 241 cases were registered during the whole autumn half of the year.

Duke’s rise comes as transfers are declining across the state և across the country, although health officials say it is too early to fully reopen schools և businesses վեր abolish mask mandates. The university administrators announced over the weekend that the order to be in the whole territory of the educational institution will be valid until 9 am on March 21, and the lessons of almost all the people will be transferred to distance learning.

Duke plans to provide an update on the blocking measures on Thursday.

In the face of changes and other constraints in a hasty process, nine brothers decided to sever ties with the university and form a group called the Durham International Council. Cases escalated sharply after the brothers began recruiting. High-ranking university officials blame these organizations.

“This (stay in place) action is necessary to contain the rapidly increasing number of COVID cases among Duke students, mainly due to students attending selective live group recruitment parties,” the university told students.

Last week, 218 additional positive cases among students more than quadrupled to a total of 53 students during the first week of March. More than 550 students have been infected with the virus since January 3.

In response to the wave of cases, Duke announced over the weekend that he would refuse to enter the student library. The school also told students not to leave their dormitory or apartment if it was for exceptional activities, such as collecting food and mail, exercising outdoors in a group of three or less, seeking medical attention, or attending a COVID-19 screening test. University students in Durham are prohibited from returning to the university except for food orders, medical care or a coronavirus test.

If conditions do not improve, Duke’s top administrators said over the weekend that the university may not be able to move forward after graduating.

“Our ability to complete the semester, the start of our senior year, the health and safety of our community, including your undergraduate students, depend on the balance,” the administrators wrote.
