SCOTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Arizona Diamondbex starting pitcher Galen has a broken right forearm hairline, raising further doubts about his ability to open the season on an active roster.
Galen, 25, injured his forearm about two weeks ago after being clogged in a diving practice. Galen said the injury did not affect most of his pitches, but he felt some discomfort when throwing the curve.
D-back manager Torey Lovullo said he was not sure how long Galen would miss. The right hand is still allowed to grip, և the injury will continue to be assessed. He received two different medical reports, both of which diagnosed the injury as a fracture.
Galen was training his shots as the National League would return to the pitchers fighting for the 2021 season when he received the appointed striker in the reduced 60-game schedule for 2020.
“It’s definitely frustrating, considering I’m a kind of DH lawyer,” Galen said Monday. “I get paid to go out on the pitch, I kind of look at it. It comes with work. “I play in the National League, you have to hit, you have to explode, you have to do certain things.”
Last season, Galen was the Diamondbacks’ best pitcher, finishing with a 3-2 record at 2.75 ERA with 82 hits in 72 games. He finished ninth in the National League Cy Young Award voting.
