Blue jackets traded from Foligno to Maple Leafs in a 3-team deal

Nick Folino’s time in Columbus is over. The Blue Jackets were selling their longtime captain to Toronto’s Maple Leafs in pursuit of the Stanley Cup.

Columbus has won the first round of 2021 և the fourth round of the 2022’s fourth round on Sunday as part of a three-team trade with the San Jose Sharks. The Blue Jackets increased their second-round pick for the featured player on the same day, while agreeing to keep half of Foligno’s $ 5.5 million salary hit.

“Given where we are at the moment, this step made sense to us as the organization և Nick,” said Yarmo Kekalainen, CEO of Blue Jackets.

Toronto also acquired striker Stefan Noesen from San Jose, who won the fourth round of this year’s tournament to keep 25% of Folino’s salary.

It’s like the trade that Columbus made on Saturday, sending defender David Savard to Tampa Bay Lightning for the first round this year and the third round next year. The Blue Jackets are collecting high-end collections by selling the NHL trade deadline after being knocked out of the playoffs.

In 33 games this season, 33-year-old Foligno has 7 goals and 9 assists for 16 points. He has been the captain of the “Blue Jackets” for the last six seasons.

“Nick Foligno has been everything you would want as a captain, a representative of your team, an ambassador for your community,” Kekalainen said. “His contributions to the Blue Jackets patent, the impact he and his family had on the ice are immeasurable.”

Foligno, whose father played four seasons for Toronto, puts the Maple Leafs, the leader of the Northern Division, in a certain toughness and experience ahead. They could not get out of the first round with this core, to welcome the 51 games of the Stanley Cup play-off Folino.
