ATLANTIC CA CITY AC, NY (AP) – A group in the gambling industry wants to teach consumers how to know if a particular sports betting or online casino site is legal.
The nonprofit group Conscious Gaming, an online gaming technology company, launched its Bettor Safe campaign this week to promote the benefits of licensed gaming sites, including consumer practices:
It launched state-of-the-art campaigns in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, where research shows that many customers are confused about what a legitimate gaming site is. Special state efforts are planned soon.
“This campaign comes at a time when American sports fans are preparing for the NCAA Basketball Tournament amid an epidemic that continues to push individuals online,” said Seth Palanski, Vice President and former CEO of Caesars Entertainment. We need to educate consumers, equip them with tools to make more informed decisions about online betting. ”
At the national level, 35% of people are unaware of whether online betting is legal in their states;
A recent Conscious Gaming survey of more than 500 adults surveyed New Jersey և their attitudes toward online gambling habits in Pennsylvania. It found that more than 25% of respondents in New York և և more than 30% of respondents in Pennsylvania are unaware of whether online gambling is legal in their state, or answered that it is not legal.
Pennsylvania Gaming Board Executive Director Kevin O’Toole called the campaign “a potential resource to empower consumers.”
The survey found that 75% of residents of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, could not distinguish between a legal betting site and an illegal one.
For example, the New Ersey campaign website offers a list of all legal sports betting sites approved by the State Department of Gaming Law.
It also offers a list of things people should look for to decide if a site is legal, including two logos in New Jersey for the Responsible Gaming and Games section.
It asks customers if a significant amount of information is searched during registration, saying that unlicensed sites usually do not require as much as legal sites.
And cryptocurrency is not legal for online games in New Jersey; Any website that accepts this is automatically an illegal website by campaign.
Conscious Gaming is an independent group created by GeoComply whose technology is widely used in the online gaming industry to check a player’s physical position to comply with state laws.
